I have something totally different planned for you today! Something I’m very excited about personally and would love to share with you!
We live in a world in which we’re rushing all the time. From one place to another. Every day, I get so many impressions, I plan so many activities, I do so much socializing. I enjoy all of that. However, how often do we take some time to breathe and come to ourselves? I hardly ever do. Every ‘free’ minute has to be spent in a profitable manner. And that’s something I really want to get rid off. In my busy schedule, I had to make time to relax and take care of my body. As you might know, I go to the gym a couple of times a week, but I noticed I was getting less lean each day. That’s because I work out with weights. Stretching after working out with weights is very important (and I admit I don’t take enough time to stretch after my work out). Weight training exercises hav been very good to me. However, it’s time to bring my work outs to another level.
A while ago, I got the chance to get in touch with hot yoga also called bikram yoga. It’s one of the many types of yoga. I have also tried regular yoga, but I was never as enthousiastic as I was after my first lesson of hot yoga at Absolute Yoga in Amsterdam.
First, let me explain what hot yoga is. Yoga in any form is an effective but low-impact exercise that can have a positive effect on your blood pressure, mood & stress level. Hot yoga is a series of yoga poses performed in a room heated to 40 degrees (Celsius) or more. Hot yoga has many health benefits compared to the regular practice of yoga, from numerous physiological benefits to psychological benefits. And another good thing to know, you can burn up to 700 calories! This means that hot yoga can help you lose weight. I’m a beginner myself and I’m already hooked, but I guess only time will tell. I’m sure I will discover all the benefits soon. When I do, I will definitely share it with you. Now that I have gone to several classes, I can tell that I have never felt so relaxed after any kind of exercise. Since I’ve always had trouble sweating a lot, hot yoga feels like a relieve. When you’re in a room heated to 40 degrees, your pulse and metabolism will increase and it will allow your blood vessels to become more flexible. It’s similar to sitting in a sauna. The heat of a hot yoga class will allow your body to move more freely, also, cold muscles are injured more easily than muscles that are warm. This also means that you don’t have to be an experienced yoga practitioner to join these classes. Everybody can do it but of course you have to find out if you can deal with the heat.
There is so much more to tell, but for now I will stick to this information. I am learning about (hot) yoga and I can tell you that each practice teaches me more than all the information on the internet. I’m really happy with this beautiful spot in Amsterdam where they have all kinds of hot yoga lessons. The environment, the beautiful garden. It’s a peaceful place in the middle of Amsterdam where I can go to spend an hour by myself and to free my mind.
But I’m not completely done yet! Of course I have to share my thoughts about yoga fashion as well! 🙂 Even when sweating like uhum.., you can look fancy. And last but not least, I’m addicted to coconut water…and after a hot yoga class, coconut water is the best thing you’ve ever drank. Trust me, haha!
